I bought this cushion for use on my wheel chair to reduce the hard feeling so common with long periods of inactivity. The delivery time was great, the cushion looks good, but after sitting on it for about 10 minutes the cushion is worthless. It needs additional firmness for some support. It does puff back up after you get up, but for actual cushion confort you are better off getting any kind of cushion, even cotton balls.

Doc recommended a gel cushion. Tried that, not much relief. Ordered these for my hard chairs and have been very pleased. Bony butt is feeling better!

As an R.N., I am very aware of how much harder it is to cure a pressure sore than to prevent one. This chair pad works with a wheelchair as well as regular chairs to provide a softer sitting base. The cover is removeable for washing. The price is very reasonable. I would recommend this product for anyone trying to prevent discomfort from sitting.

This Duro-Med Pad is very soft and when you sit on it will shrink to maybe a fifth of its normal thickness. We've found that we get better results with 2 pads stacked on my father's wheelchair for additional comfort. In my opinion, two are almost mandatory for cushioning. The cover is easy to wash and the foam is durable. My father's used them for years. One thing missing that would've been useful is string to tie the pad to the chair but it's not crucial.

There is a thick, durable, comfortable alternative: Duro-Med High-Density Foam Wheelchair Cushion, Plaid, 4 Inch x 16 Inch x 18 Inch This alternative cushion is about twice as thick (maybe a bit more) than two of the lighter Duro-Med cushion and doesn't shrink as much. My father's 200 lbs, but the aternative cushion keeps much of its thickness while still being comfortable.

So why bother with the lighter Duro-Med pad? The lighter ones are easier to fold into the wheelchair when transporting it, and they're easier to clean (esp. easier to clean the foam itself).
