Bean Products Organic Kapok Pillow

This is my first time using a kapok pillow. I purchased the king size. It comes well stuffed! I actually removed a lot of the kapok in order to taylor it to my softness preference. I love that this pillow is organic. There is no nasty chemical smell. It is well made. The kapok feels almost like a down pillow in terms of firmness. I couldn't get through to Bean Products right away to ask a question, but once I did the guy who answered was very helpful.

A really neat pillow. I was looking for what is known as elavanpanju(tamil name for kapok) pillow. This turned out to be exactly that. I feel this is the best material for a pillow. It seems to be well done with enough fibre in the pillow. I would recommend to anyone wanting the right feel for a pillow.

When I was a girl, I was allergic to feather pillows and they were all we had. Someone gave me a kapok pillow and I still remember the comfort of it. For fifty years I have searched for similar comfort and finally found it in this amazing pillow. It's best feature is a zipper that allows you to remove fillling until it gets "just right." This pillow is packed with so much kapok that I took out enough to make two or three more pillows. The quality of the material and stitching is outstanding.

This pillow has been a major disappointment. We bought it for our toddler's first pillow, trying to avoid having him breathe in toxic materials each night. Fresh out of the box, the pillow seemed a little understuffed. Within a week, it was flat (with only a 3 year old's head sleeping on it!). It will temporarily plump up when you fluff it, but quickly returns to its flat state. In addition, despite having covered it immediately with an organic zippered pillow cover and organic pillow case, the pillow smells (like damp kapok?)...so much so that our son's face also smells after sleeping on it. I guess we'll be switching to an organic cotton pillow...

This pillow has a very strong odour when you first receive it. If you're able to put it outside in the sun it may be ok to use after one day, but I live in a small dark apartment and it took about 5 days until I wasn't bothered by the smell anymore. Once the smell goes it's a great pillow. I would say mine had just enough kapok in it, so I didn't take out any filling.
