Foam mattresses are generally composed of two or more layers (this one is two), the top memory foam layer, and then the base layer. For the top memory foam layer, the denser the lb, the more durable the mattress will be, and the longer it will last. This mattress is 5.3lb, which is very durable. So in that regard, this mattress rocks. The only thing higher than that is 7lb; which is somewhat unusual. If you buy a mattress with a memory foam that is too low (like 3lb), it will not last very long, perhaps only a couple of years. Yes, the mattress may have a warranty of 20 years... but think about it logically, these are huge mattresses, and a foam mattress is much heavier than a spring mattress (think 100lbs), try shipping that to the manufacturer. They're counting on the fact that you're not going to ship it back. So forget about the warranty.
Next is the base layer, which is a non-memory foam layer. There's three types that these mattresses are composed of: latex, polyurethane, and a latex-polyurethane blend. This mattress is polyurethane; and it's 1.8lbs. Again, the higher the lbs, the better. So this is where this mattress is sort of lacking, and where the manufacturer is saving money to give you the cheap price. There are some people out there who say that latex is far superior to polyurethane and that it's more durable, other people say that it doesn't matter. Then there's the fact that this one is only 1.8lbs... a good one would be around 3lbs. The problem is that over time the base of the mattress can start to sink in under your weight. I decided to go for this mattress anyway because my husband and I are pretty trim. Would it hold up for a heavier couple? It's hard to say.
Would this mattress last 20 years like they say on those TV commercials? Who knows? But I'll update my review if I start to notice any issues.
Other things to know about a foam mattress: You can't use an electric blanket with this. When you get it home, it's going to smell like paint for a couple of days, that's true of all foam mattress; just air it out. Also, you don't need a box spring, although you can use one if you already have one. I placed mine on a "high rise, 14" bed frame", which you can get right here on amazon, just to make it the right height.
Comfort: Excellent comfort. My husband sleeps on his back and I sleep on my side, and we're both comfortable. It really doesn't transfer motion too, which is pretty awesome. I didn't have issues with back pain or anything like that, but I found myself tossing less, and sleeping better. I always had issues with insomnia, and I find myself sleeping better, simply because I'm tossing around less, and noticing my husband shifting around less too.I have had this bed for about a year now, and have worked out the bugs, and It is a great bed.
First of all, I am mid 30's about 5 10 and 240lbs, so not a small guy.
My wife is though, a small woman. She also has severe back problems. I am a side sleeper.
There are a few things I had concerns with about this bed
Will it be too hot?
Will it stink?
Will it be too hard, or too soft?
There are some things that you HAVE to know about this style of bed, or you will be VERY unhappy.
1I sleep hot. Rarely with any more then a light blanket, and with this bed this has not changed. Not even in summer time, so Myth number one that a memory foam bed is hot, is NO it is not too hot.
2Stinky out of the bag? Eighhhh... It smelled for a while. Maybe a day, but I got it delivered at about 3pm, unrolled it, and slept on it at 9 that night with ZERO problems. Not a big deal.
3After a year of trying to decide how firm or soft this particular bed is, I have decided it is just a.....tad too soft for my preference of being a big guy My wife loves it and says it is perfect. You sink into it pretty good, and I have noticed I rarely toss and turn anymore. and my hip does not get sore at night anymore as in a spring mattress.
Now. These are points I feel are VERY important to know when you buy this bed, as per other reviews, and just my own trial and error.
1DO NOT PUT THE BED ON ANYTHING BUT A ROCK SOLID SURFACE!!!!!!
NO, your box springs are NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT a solid surface!!!!!
There's one review of this bed that says the bed sags in the middle and is horrible. I guarantee it is because its on a set of box springs, because I did this, and the bed sagged in the middle, and I was super sore.
2You need a very thin pillow. After I figured out why my back was hurting because of the bed, and we figured out the box springs were to blame, my back stopped hurting, then my neck started hurting. I noticed my wife when she first got into bed her neck was pretty straight on her big fluffy pillow, and after you sink in in a few min, the pillow is much too high, so I dug in my closet for an old paper thin pillow and used that, and it solved my neck problem.
Seems like the hard part to wrap your mind around with these beds is you sleep IN this bed as opposed to sleep ON the bed. My chiropractor couldn't even understand this until he got one for himself.
3you kind of have to break in this bed. After 4 weeks I was calling Amazon trying to return the bed, but something came up, and I missed the return deadline. I am very glad I did not, because after its been broke in it is a VERY nice bed!
Buy DynastyMattress 12" Therapeutic Memory Foam Mattress with 5" 5LB Viscoelastic Memory Foam Now
We hunted and searched, reviewed and re-reviewed, memory foam mattresses. As you end up finding out, no matter how many reviews you read, buying a mattress is entirely a personal preference. You can read a great review, only to try out the bed and find that it doesn't suit your needs. That being said, I had sort of given up on finding the perfect mattress. My Cousin had purchased a memory foam mattress from Amazon and so I decided to check it out. This mattress had a lot of good things going for it, starting with the 5.3lb Viscoelastic memory foam. Also, the price is fantastic. While I would have loved to have a Tempru-Pedic bed, we just couldn't justify the costs. I was concerned about ordering this online and wondering how in the world I would ever return it, if it didn't work out. Fortunately, from the day it arrived, it's been nothing but a positive experience. When we opened it up, it took shape right away. It did NOT have any smell to it, as some have noticed. The mattress tends to be on the firmer side, so if you don't like firm mattresses, this may not be for you. We've had it for a week now and have gotten a good nights sleep since the beginning. I'm hoping that it will loosen up a bit as the weeks go bye, but say that with caution, as I don't want to see divots in my bed after the first year. So far, I'm very pleased and aside from this being impossible to ever return (should you need to), it's a winner in all ways.I will preface this by saying though I am very active, I have had lower back issues my whole life. Including surgery. I am not wealthy so finding the right mattress for the lowest price was very important. Some facts you should consider when buying a mattress. 1) Comfort does not equal support. Most people think comfort is the most important, not true. IF you have any back issues forget about the cushy beds and pillowtops you can't have it both ways. If your back is fine then the cushy cushy is fine. I have had doctors, surgeons, and chiropractors tell me "get a supportive" mattress. This mattress is VERY firm, VERY supportive. There is NO motion transfer to the other person in the bed when you get in or out. If you like memory foam pillows, your gonna love this bed. 2) Not all memory foam is the same. GET THE lbs/ per sq foot. I did so much research my wife was annoyed, but The more dense the foam, the more support and the better the longevity of the mattress. I looked at the novafoam, but its far less dense. I looked at the temperpedic and this mattress has the exact same density, at 1/3 the price. The 5.3 lbs per sq foot is the exct same as the expensive temperpedic. I LOVE THIS BED. The only draw back is that its made in China and the quality control standards and safety standards may not be the same but I had to take a chance for the price. I buy American when I can this was not one of those times. As for the mattress its perfect loved it from the first day!! My wife needed a week to get used to it but her back is better too. Does it sleep hot? Have not noticed that at all. My wife says a little. Didn't notice the smell after one night. ITS HEAVY. You'll need help moving it around and getting it unpacked and put in place. This is the best bed purchase ever. I have no doubt the inner spring mattress is going the way of the rotary phone. Anyone who sleeps on this type of bed wouldn't go back to a spring mattress. We've had this bed for several weeks now. It is by far the most comfortable bed we've ever owned. We've had waterbeds, air beds, pillow top mattresses, futtons and nothing has ever been this comfortable. I tried a tempurpedic and I cannot tell the difference, so I can't understand why the huge difference in price. Like all foam mattresses of any quality, this one is heavy. Stand back when you slice open the packaging. It wants to unroll fast and sounds like it will suck all the air out of the room. I had read reviews there is an odor for the first few days and that was true. It wasn't unpleasant for us and it was gone in two or three days. Unless you believe you have to spend the most to get the best, you won't find a good reason not to buy this mattress. I'm so glad we took the chance. I was skeptical, but really wanted this type of mattress and decided to risk ordering it. What a great decision.
