Handy Living Cabo Living Room Convert-A-Couch Chenille Sleeper Sofa

I live in a small one bedroom apartment and wanted something that I could use for the occasional guest, but I didn't want a pull-out sofa that would require me to furniture around, or a traditional futon that just looks cheap. I consider myself somewhat of a handy woman; I know my way around a toolbox and have put furniture together many times. I was able to put the sofa together by myself in just over an hour and the directions were very easy to read. There were no missing or extra pieces.

This sofa is good for the price. The picture makes it look more high-end than it is. I got the gray one and I think the material makes it look somewhat cheap, and if I had to do it again I would buy a microfiber version that this manufacturer offers. It's comfortable enough to sit on and I can see myself falling asleep on it while watching TV. When in the bed position, it's full-sized, and like the first reviewer, I think it will be relatively comfortable to sleep on. You don't feel any bars in the seated or lying down position. Overall I am happy with this purchase.

Update 12/21/12: This couch has proved very sturdy over the past year+ and I'm still happy with my purchase. I have fallen asleep on it plenty of times, and it's also very comfortable to sleep on in the bed position; I've actually chosen the couch over my queen-sized bed a couple of times. Guests think it's the coolest couch ever. I'm actually happy that I got the gray one now, because I have a cat and dog, and this tweed-like material doesn't show anything. My only complaint is that I wish the armrests were cushioned.

After investigating Ikea's offers of sofa beds that would still look like sofas (and not like a half-folded beds) and would be affordable (less than $500), I decided to start searching online Ikea's sofa beds were either too expensive ($650 for the first decent-looking model EKTORP) or just too cheap-looking for my budget.

The Handy Living is a winner on all aspects I actually wasn't expecting it to be that good, but it is!

ASSEMBLY: Very easy to put together, I only used the help of a friend to hold the back panel while I was attaching it, otherwise I did everything by myself. It took me approx. 30 minutes.

COMFORT: This is extremely comfortable the thickness of the pads is a good 10", very very comfortable, this is just like a real mattress inside your sofa. I so far had no complains on guests who slept on it.

LOOKS: It really look like a real sofa, guests are usually surprised when they see it actually turns into a bed. The covering is also very soft and doesn't look cheap at all. And it is so big that three people can sit on it without having to squeeze in once again for this price you wouldn't get an Ikea sofa where three people could comfortably sit on.

Overall this is an excellent purchase, I don't think you'll get that level of quality for such a price anywhere else. I highly recommend it!

I do have a few critics though, but nothing that really lowers my overall opinion of the product:

SHIPMENT: UPS informed me I would receive it on a Tuesday, so I decided to take a day off, and it was finally delivered the following day... And the delivery guy did not even bother helping me get the package (which is huge) into my building. Terrible UPS experience overall.

PACKAGE: it should be better wrapped-up, the box was probably too thin and already was torn apart in the corners, plus some liquid had spilled over it... The product inside was fine, though.

TRACES ON WALLS: the walls of my living room are matte white, so can get stained very easily, and the couch does leave traces on my walls, which is fine since it is all hidden by the couch, but you have to be careful when moving the couch around a room.

Just got this today! I put it together in 15-20 minutes and shortly fell asleep on it afterwards. I went from a twin mattress to this product, thinking it was like a futon... But I was shocked at how comfortable it is! I can't wait to go watch a movie and relax in my new bed! Great quality, easy to change to a bed/couch, and supports a 200 pound man comfortably. Bonus points because I used a twin mattress pad and sheet and they fit perfectly

Product is exactly as described. Very fast shipping. It looks a bit intimidating to put together but you CAN in fact do it with one person if that one person is handy! You do feel the metal bars on the back of the seat when you put your hands on it (not when you sit on it)-but other than that you might never know its a convert-a couch. Quite comfortable too! Great bargain I would definitely recommend!

This couch/sofa sleeper is a pretty comfortable couch I just like to add an extra pillow near the arm for more comfort. I sleep on this as a bed regularly and it is as comfortable as any "old school" mattress not the fancy $2000 kind. The assembly is straightforward and the directions are pretty clear. It's helpful to have two people to assemble, although not necessary. At the time of this review, I've had the couch for nearly five months and have been very pleased. We switch it back and forth regularly with no problem. It's the easiest conversion with just the lift of one hand until it clicks. The "cushions" are really just one big cover that goes over what are essentially two coil spring mattress innards. They are a bit of a challenge to wrestle into the slip cover (this is the part where two people are really helpful!), but you only do that once so it's not a big deal. I really like that we can store our guest linens (all the bedding sheets, blankets AND pillows, as well as towels under the seat. The storage is definitely an added bonus for small spaces, and convenient to keep guest linens in one place ready for company.

COLOR:

I ordered the gray chenille, it is a between a warm gray and a French gray, but closer to French it is NOT a cool gray. Hope that helps if you're trying to match something.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

There is a one year warranty on the product and my slipcover is having some issues at one seam. I called the company and they were pleasant and friendly and just needed my Amazon order number to send out a new slip cover at no charge.
