Pillowtex Latex Foam Mattress Topper

I bought this to replace a Serta Supreme 3" memory foam "egg crate" mattress topper. It simply disintegrated in less than 2 years of normal use. Although my wife really liked it, I refuse to ever buy memory foam again.

This topper is made of latex, which is supposed to be more durable and lacking the strong, lasting petroleum smell of memory foam. When I opened the box, this definitely had an odour, though not as pronounced as the memory foam, and it disappeared after a week. It fit our king size mattress perfectly, which was another nice change from the old egg crate which didn't quite stretch across the mattress. As for comfort, I put this worlds ahead of memory foam, which was very squishy and felt like laying on a soft sponge. The Pillowtex gives a nice cushion effect, but you don't feel like you're sinking into it.

The primary downside is the price, though you can save a bit because you probably don't need a 2" or thicker topper. Both my wife and I find this to provide all the padding we want, and I suspect if we had gotten a thicker version, it would have been a bit too much. It's very comfortable, and doesn't stay compressed as you move around at night. Also, the included zip-on cover is a really nice touch.

Since I haven't had this for very long, I can't talk about the durability. But if you want a bit of cushion for the top of your mattress, without the drawbacks of memory foam, this is well worth considering.

You can smell a very strong odor, like petroleum or fuel and it does NOT go away. We have had it for almost a month and the odor is as strong as ever. We are not going to use it. The smell didn't even go out of the cloth cover with laundering and even Febreeze, which I thought could eliminate any odor, do you can tell the odor is unfortunately a 'part' of the product. I would advise anyone NOT TO BUY THIS. I wish the first reviewer had been more accurate, because I'm out $179.00 now.
