100% Children's Silk Pillow with Pillowcase

We have a silk comforter and we love it so thought silk pillow would be nice for my 12 months old. I like the size of the pillow, it's great for a roll around sleeper. I also like how soft and smooth the silk is but it has a strange smell. When it arrived it was there and after almost a month it's still there. it's a smell I don't really know how to describe. It's kind of woodsy and sour. It's not chemical and it's not foul or offensive. I suspect it's the smell of the silk? I have a silk comforter and it does not have that smell.

I've contacted the seller as well as the manufacturer but neither of them has responded. I've put an organic cotton pillow cover over it but the smell seeps out! Not knowing what it is I've decided to put the pillow away. I am looking for another option. I wish the seller and/or manufacturer would be more responsive especially in dealing with children's products.

I probably wouldn't recommend it not knowing what that smell is. =(
