Ikea Poang Chair Armchair with Cushion, Cover and Frame

We bought the Poang chair for our daughter when she moved out and later returned home when her summer job ended. I can attest that this chair is very comfy indeed. Unfortunately when you are nearing senior citizen status this chair is very difficult to get out of.

Comfortable to sit in, wonderful chair to curl up with a book especially if you have the footstool, but not so good when trying to exit.

Recommend with caveats given.

Okay. This Poang armchair is made by Ikea. It costs what $99.00? And in my house, with all the semi-expensive furniture from Crate and Barrel, this cheap little chair is easily the most comfortable chair I own. I can sit for hours in it, as comfortable as I've ever been reading in a chair. There's not much you can write about a chair in a review. It's not a book, it's a piece of furniture. But, for a place to read a book, this chair is downright perfect. It isn't a rocking chair; I think Ikea does make a rocking chair, but this chair rocks a slight bit. Just enough to let the sitter find right position. And because the seat is pitched slightly downward towards the back, it's easy to lean backwards. I don't know how to describe it ergonomically other than by saying, "It's perfect".

I only wish it came with a foot stool so I can put my feet up, but it seems it doesn't. Oh well...

The things I like best about this chair is that the cushions and/or covers can be purchased separately if one should become damaged, and that the covers on the cushions are zip-off and can be machine washed. We've had one of these for over a year and I've washed the cushion cover a couple of times with great success. We have cats and dogs that jump on on furniture and the cats occasionally barf up fur balls, so being able to wash the cushions is a godsend. Pet hair also vacuums up pretty easily or can be removed with one of these dense pet hair sponges: Gonzo PHL12D Gonzo Pet Hair Lifter. It would also be good for people with kid's because of the washable cushion covers.

The chair is amazingly comfortable. This is probably why these chairs are so popular. I've seen them on stage sets in movies or TV shows several times. The style kind of goes with anything. They also come in a few different frame colors like light birch or black and lots of different cushion covers. There are even leather cushions for the chair (at a higher price) that you can buy from Ikea or that are sometimes sold on Amazon.

One of the most attractive features of these chairs is the reasonable price. You have to assemble them but there aren't many pieces and the instructions are seriously simple: pictures only instructions. I found them to be very specific and easy to follow, unlike some instructions these days. It took me less than 10 minutes to put it together. I think I may have used a screwdriver but the other little tool was included. Two thumbs up for a great piece of furniture that is both comfortable and great for people with pets or messy kids.
