Japanese Buckwheat Hull Pillow - Soba Gara Makura - Rectangular 13" x 18" size - Blue Ya Gasuri Desi

Japanese Buckwheat Hull Pillow - Soba Gara Makura - Rectangular 13' x 18' size - Blue Ya Gasuri DesignI've just ordered my second buckwheat pillow from this company. It's rare to find something EXACTLY as it's advertized, but in this case, this company delivers on every claim it makes. The pillow fabric is superb; it's very smooth and tightly-woven and appears to be just as they claim, fabric from Japan. If your decorating scheme is Asian in any way, this item will beautifully compliment your decor.

It's easy to remove the extra sleeve for washing. I have done this many times, and have not noticed any fading of the fabric colors, which is nice. As for the buckwheat itself, the pillow comes absolutely STUFFED with hulls. I had to remove quite a few of them to get my preferred level of comfort, but that was nice. I now have some to add back in if I ever need them. The size is really good as well. It's not as large as a standard pillow and it doesn't need to be. It fits your head perfectly with room on either side. This pillow can accomplish everything it needs to do with its compact size. I've used it for years and never wished it was bigger.

Buckwheat pillows are not for everyone. They "crunch" whenever you move and this can probably seem kind of annoying to certain people. For myself, I love the sound and find it very comforting. After using a buckwheat pillow for so many years, I find it hard to sleep on quiet pillows! Why are they so quiet? They must be up to something.

As I stated at the beginning, I've just purchased my second pillow from this company. Yes, they are expensive. But for an item that you will use every day for many years, it's absolutely worth splashing out the extra cash to get exactly the quality item that you want. There's no annoying smell with this pillow from the weird chemicals used on the buckwheat hulls of foreign pillows. This pillow has a wonderful, natural smell and that alone is worth the extra cost to me. The first buckwheat pillow I ever bought (from WalMart! Ugh!) was cheap as hell, all right, but it smelled strange for a long, long time. I really hated that about it.

This second pillow is a Christmas gift for my kid. He keeps stealing -ahem"borrowing" my pillow, and I want it back. Now he'll have his own.

I just want to say thanks to J-Life for such a great item. You guys rock!

My husband purchased this for me. The cover is beautiful and very well made. The pillow has a zipper so I can take out as many hulls as I want to fit my personal taste. The first night I found the cover a little stiff so I put it through the wash and it was fine. It took me a couple days to get the right amount of fillings. I sleep so soundly now. It really helped me sleep better.

The case is nice and well made, but there is too much filling for my tastes It does not form well around your head and neck. My poor rating is not for the pillow, however. It's for this company's customer service. I ordered this pillow on 21 Dec, 2012 and received an email stating that the shipment had left the seller facility and was in transit to carrier. The carrier (UPS) did not receive it until 2 Jan 2013. Now, I know UPS will use any excuse not to deliver a standard shipped package, but I have never known them to not make a pick-up or loose a package once it's in their system. I realize that this order was placed during the holiday season, but there is absolutely no excuse for having this order sit around for over two weeks until someone noticed it and actually delivered it to the shipping company. It wouldn't matter if I absolutely loved this pillow, I will never order anything else from this company based on their slipshod customer service.
