When I flattened it, it was still too short, and the bar from the frame was digging in my back or my front when lying down on it. There was absolutely NO ROOM for my arms. Considering the fact that I am about 5'8'' tall and weigh 127 lbs, this was unacceptable.
The mat was thick enough, but it couldn't conform somewhat to the sand underneath, and at the same time it was not efficient at all to keep the sand off it, or to stay flat when a small gust of wind blew.
Still can't believe I lugged it all the way down to the beach, because despite the only metal A-frame, it was much heavier than it looked.
The idea for this mat is ingenious but poorly and thoughtlessly executed. I left after 1/2 hour (normally I am there for the day) and was frustrated. The material also picks up dirt easily.
You're better off getting a low beach chair with arm rests and extra accessories (soda holder, cell phone pocket, cooling pack), I found one at Costco the same day and it even lies back flat too... and that for $30!! The chair can be carried like a back pack and is about the same weight as the mat (I don't know either on how that's possible, but it is.)I don't know why beach mats like this aren't all over the internet & every Walmart, etc. I finally found it on Amazon & ordered it. It came in just a few days & was well packaged. When I opened it, I found it was much better than expected. The easily adjustable frame is welded & very strong. The zipper pouch in back can flop over the top & hold a small pillow if you like. It carries well on my shoulder. It's really a quality product. The ONLY down side is trying to remember which way to fold it so that the frame is inside and the velcro straps are in the right place to hold it closed. That's MY problem though, not theirs

The beach draws all types of people: those that love to lie flat on a towel and catch some rays, and those that love to sit up in a chair and read. Well, I wanted to do both during my vacation to Ocean City. And this portable beach mat was the perfect choice. I was surprised by how efficient it was. A light metal frame at the top, a couple of adjustable straps, and BAM!, you can prop yourself up. When I felt like lying down to get a nice even tan, I just extended the straps as far as they could go, or shifted down the mat a bit. If I wanted a slight recline, I tightened them a bit, and if I wanted to sit up all the way and read, I could do that too. That mat itself is a lovely color, and much lighter than a chair to carry, which was good since the closest parking we could get to the beach was several blocks away. I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen more of these around. You don't know what you're missing out on!Read Best Reviews of Picnic Time Beachcomber Portable Beach Mat Here
Nice to use. Use for sunning on deck of our boat. Compact and easy to use Will use a lot during the summerMy husband and I get tired of lugging beach chairs to and fro with an extra long walk to the beach. I decided to buy two of these beach mats and couldn't be happier. They are super lightweight, comfortable, adjustable, and easy to carry. I'm so glad I bought them. We tried them for the first time today and loved them.
