Until one year ago, the smell of the litter box (1 cat, 1 box, 1 700sq ft apt) was every present no matter how often I scooped. First change was to using pine litter (LOVE IT), second was to mist it daily with PureAyre. Night and Day difference.I used PureAyre before on my regular clumping litter, which helped some, for sure, but still room for improvement!
But with both the changes, me and my Abby are much happier campers. I actually LIKE the scent (some reviews complain about it, one even called it "chemical" smelling--mint? chemical smelling? )
I'd used the Mrs. Myers Pet spray (mint and lavender). I LOVED the scent, but no "active" ingredient (ie the enzymes). I'd also used Nature's Miracle litter box spray(active ingredients, but no scent). So PureAyre is the best of both worlds, to me..."aromatherapeutic" scent AND enzymatic action.
NOte that I mist the pine litter at least once a day. Sometimes I"ll mist, stir the pine litter so dry sections are revealed, and mist again, so that all surfaces get a slight mist (not enough penetrate too much...just the surface). Works like a charm! But I can't seem to find it in Texas, so every time I"m home visiting in Seattle, I buy a few bottles at PCC Natural Markets, and prepackage in bottles from their bulk foods section (for safer travel!). Didn't occur to me till this current visit that I could probably get it online!
I've never tried this for a real "accident"...I still go to Nature's Miracle for that (it WORKS....really!!) but for the litter box, only PUreAyre will do for me!!

Beware when you buy this product. I smelled it at the store and thought it had a strong vinegar smell but figured it would fade and leave behind the mint it contains. Not even close. Do not use this on anything besides pet-related objects because it makes everything you spray smell like pickles, and the smell doesn't go away. I'm returning it.
