After ordering the mattress, I got an email asking about what firmness level I wanted, and I went with the default level of 6, which was just on the plush side of medium.
The box it came in looked kind of narrow to contain a mattress, but if you look at the pictures that I submitted, you will see how it was packaged. I unrolled it and cut the plastic (and my hand in the process), and then you could hear the woosh of the air flowing into the mattress. 30 seconds later, I have a mattress that measures at 10.88 inches thick and it appears to be very comfortable.
I will continue this review in a week after sleeping on it.
It has now been a week, and I have noticed that my sleep is deeper with this mattress, and it is very conforming to both my, and my wife's body. The slight odor dissipated after 2 days, and we are enjoying this both very much. I usually sleep with a CPAP due to my sleep apnea, but my wife has informed me that even without the CPAP, I am no longer snoring because I am able to sleep continuously on my side all night.
I will update this review in a few more weeks, and let you know how the bed is holding up.
Before this, we had a Tempurpedic Celebrity bed, but while my wife loved the feel, I found it too squishy for my tastes. This bed makes a great compromise where you still get the support you need without the claustrophobic feeling.
It has now been almost 7 months since we got the mattress and it is still holding up great with one small issue. I find that you need to rotate the mattress periodically so that sometimes the foot of the mattress becomes the head. It just keeps the mattress more comfortable if you do it about every other sheet change. But otherwise, I am still very pleased with it.
On another note, it works great with an adjustable base platform.
From the research I did, this mattress was consistently in the top 3 for my personal choices. It is made from high quality-durable materials that include 3" of talalay latex, 5.5" of 2.35lbs of high density base foam, 1.5" of a soft comfort layer foam, and a soft bamboo cover. The Amazon price was much lower than equivalent mattresses made from lower quality materials. The company also personally customizes each mattress made to a firmness level that fits your request.

Latex was one of my personal requirements in a mattress because of its myriad of benefits. It keeps cool when sleeping, is a fast response foam, is easy to move around on (you sleep ON the mattress instead of IN the mattress), and is one of the most durable and long lasting foams on the market. My husband and I dislike memory foam since it is a slow response foam that keeps you sleeping hot, is hard to move around on, and isn't as durable as latex.
The 2.35lbs of high density base (support) foam is of a higher quality than most of the comparable mattresses I found at Costco, Sam's Club, and any of the larger mattress manufacturers. Also, it was really hard to compare materials from the mass market manufacturers since often times they didn't know materials contained within their mattresses. When I did get some comparison information, many used 1.8lb density support foam that isn't as durable as 2.35lb support foam. When comparing memory and polyfoam, the density is pretty important and plays a big part of how durable the mattress will be. Also, many mass market mattress stores charged MUCH higher prices for comparable materials even with their "sale" prices.
After researching, testing the feel of latex, and deciding on a firmness, I chose a level 4-medium/firm. I had some other questions that Chuck from Brooklyn Bedding answered promptly. I knew that, personally, I wanted a firmer more supportive mattress that I could put my latex Seven Comforts Premium Latex Foam Mattress Pad (King) on as a comfort layer. This turned out to be an amazing combination! After sleeping on these last night, it was easier to stay in bed and when I got up, I had reduced stiffness. Also, I didn't have any shoulder or hip pain since I didn't have any pressure points when sleeping! My husband gave it high marks as well saying he slept deeper than he has in many years.
This is a very good quality mattress at a very good price. My husband and I are very pleased with it and while there is some nervousness about buying a mattress online (without having any kind of easy return policy), I think if you fully research your needs and comfort levels this is a really great deal. I would highly recommend this mattress and the folks at Brooklyn Bedding are good mattress people.

I purchased this after reading very favorable reviews on Amazon and elsewhere. I ordered a 6 on the 1-10 firmness scale, where 1 is ultra-firm and 10 is very soft. I figured a 6 should be just on the soft side of medium, which was most comfortable for me after trying out many different mattresses at B&M stores. The merchant, via email, said that levels 4 and 6 were the most popular.
My new mattress is as firm as the firmest mattress I've ever tried. I generally feel worse waking up than in the daytime or right before bed, due to lower back aches. I will add a topper to the mattress to hopefully make it more comfortable.
I'd advise anyone ordering to get at least a 7 or 8 firmness, and get more definitive comparison guidelines from the merchant before specifying a firmness level.
Update: I've purchased a Sleep Innovations / Novaform 2.5 inch gel memory foam topper to use on this mattress. The topper has definitely helped soften the mattress. The topper is sensitive to cold temperatures, however, and will be hard if the bedroom air is cold or until body heat warms the topper.
The mattress by itself was a bit less uncomfortable than when I first received it, not sure if that was due to a break-in of the mattress or me getting used to it. I still think that it's a well-made product, but the soft/firm scale may be miscalibrated towards high firmness.

We bought this mattress for our guest room we are very impressed with it. Like other reviews have said, after you order a person from the company contacts you to help you decide what firmness level you want. Here is the email I received from them:

Because we are using the mattress as a combined guest bed / day bed we ended up buying firmness level 4. I think that is perfect for what we are using it for. We are going to buy another mattress (King size) for our own bed because we have liked it so much, but we will go with a hardness of 6 for that the 4 is just slightly too firm for our tastes (although even so it feels a whole lot nicer to lay on than our old spring mattress we have on our King right now and had we received this firmness for our own bed we would have been very happy).
I've posted a few pictures of the mattress. It comes rolled up, and while the company states you get free returns, they stipulate that it has to go back in its original packaging a pretty good joke because as soon as you rip open the plastic the mattress expands out like an inflati-bed. There is no way on earth you would be able to get it back in it's packaging.
While there aren't many reviews posted here, if you check the seller's feedback (not their item feedback) you'll see a whole bunch of reviews on the company. They are legit. The mattress came as ordered, is very high quality, had a very, very mild plastic smell that dissipated after about an hour, and is very comfortable. It is sturdy and doesn't wobble, won't make any bed noise (don't want to hear that from our guest room), and is conducive and comfortable for fooling around on (people never review that part of the mattress for some reason, even though that is almost as important as the comfort level for sleeping). My wife and I give it high marks. Overall, a great mattress. If you are looking for a high quality, very reasonably priced latex mattress you can't go wrong. It seemed weird that they made the fabric out of bamboo, but it is exceedingly soft and comfortable. Almost a shame to put sheets on it.

UPDATE 12/05/09 -Since I wrote this review, I have had to have my husband replace the hinges because the screws came separated from the wood. It was a relatively easy fix (particularly for me!) but it does affect my impression on the build quality of this desk.
