Old School Mahogany Wooden Lap Desk

UPDATE 12/05/09 -Since I wrote this review, I have had to have my husband replace the hinges because the screws came separated from the wood. It was a relatively easy fix (particularly for me!) but it does affect my impression on the build quality of this desk.

I originally bought this lapdesk for work because I wanted something that would fit on my keyboard tray to accommodate my ergonomic keyboard. One of the things I really have found useful about the tray is having the ability to flip the top up (like an old school desk -thus the name!) and stash extra pens, notebooks, and change for the vending machines (I have to have my Mtn Dew during the day).

This desk also looks very nice compared to most. It is more narrow than most which is either a good thing or bad thing depending on your needs. For me it is a good thing because it fits in smaller places (like a keyboard tray or a reasonably narrow chair). If you are using it for a laptop, it is a perfect size.

The other thing I like using this lapdesk for is for reading my Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device (9.7" Display, U.S. Wireless, Latest Generation). I use my Kindle with the M-Edge Platform Genuine Leather Kindle DX Jacket (Fits 9.7" Display, Latest Generation Kindle DX), Pebbled Navy so that I am able to stand up the Kindle for hands-free reading.

However, if you want something that will accommodate both a keyboard and a mouse, then you will probably find the size a bit frustrating.

Finally, in terms of construction -while it looks nice, it is a composite wood with a laminate veneer. As such, if you bang a corner, it will definitely give you an unpleasant-looking "bulge" where the layers of the composite material expand. However, pretty much any wooden lapdesk will do the same.

Overall, I like this because it is different and more classic looking and has more functionality than your average lapdesk. It provides a solid base and is better balanced than wider lap desks. However, if you need something that will accommodate a keyboard plus a mouse, this isn't going to be the best choice for you.

I am impressed with the quality and usefulness of this Lap Desk. The large storage compartments are useful for keeping supplies organized, and can hold a large amount of supplies. I am very impressed that this model can hold all of my study supplies, so that I don't have to hunt for supplies as I need them. Kensington Memory Foam Seat Cushion, Black

After working about four months at my new job, I began to realize my leather office chair had gone completely flat. It was like I was sitting on a plank of plywood all day. Ouch! To make matters worse I have sciatic problems that kick up every now and again, so the fact that I was subjecting my tooshie to such rough seating accomidations just wasn't smart.

I began scouring Amazon for some sort of seating cushion that would be effective but wasn't a huge pillow/donut etc. Then I came across the listing for this item and saw it was made from memory foam. I sleep on memory foam (Those that do know it's benefits!), so I decided to go with it.

When it first arrived I was suprised at it's weight. Even though the description says it's 2lbs I wasn't really expecting a cushion to weigh that much. The foam is dense, two inches as described. The cover is of nice quality. Chances are people won't even really notice it on your chair if it's black, if that's even something to be concerned about in the first place.

Here's the most valuable information I think I can give for reviewing this item:

The first time you sit on this thing it's not going to be what you expect. It's firm! Even too firm if your butt is already sore from your current situation. To be very honest I had my doubts and wasn't sure it was going to work for me. The night before I took it to work I was almost positive the thing would have to be thrown away or returned.

HOWEVER, once I reluctantly hauled it to work and actually sat on it for awhile, I gradually began to notice the lack of pressure on my tailbone, and really my whole butt in general lol. The longer you sit the more you sort of sink, and it's hard to notice that at first. In my opinion it's just like getting used to sleeping on memory foam, just sitting on it. It's not the easiest transition, but once you get used to it, it's difficult to go without. Even after the end of the first day I knew it was going to do the trick.

I've had this cushion for about 2 1/2 weeks now and I LOVE it. No pain from sitting at all, and it's design is perfect for my chair. I know it will probably have to be replaced later down the line, in maybe six months or so, but that's fine with me. The relief in my eyes is well worth it.

Please note that even though I've mentioned I sometimes have sciatic pains, I wouldn't expect this cushion to work for absolutely every person that bought it. I'm female, 26, and of average build. For a larger or fuller body build this cushion may or may not be what you need. Take note of the measurements. Go out and test out some memory foam products in a store if you've never used them before, and see if that kind of material might work for you. It did for me, and I couldn't be happier.

So yeah, kind of an extensive review I know, but I figure if there's anyone else out there that is dealing with the misery of evil office chairs like I was, I should do my part to help.

I have to sit at the computer for hours on end working on assignments and papers...tried the "Tush Cush Seat Cushion"....found it to be extremely uncomfortable and simply unuseable...was very sceptical of trying another seat cushion that promised much more than a weird hunk of foam could reasonably be expected to deliver...

buying the kensington was a leap of faith (and desperation) as it did not carry a single review of it on amazon at the time. the memory foam thing really molds to the shape of your butt...so some of the pressure is relieved off the pressure points and redistributed all over...i'm not sure of the science behind it but i can now sit longer (very much longer) at the computer in greater comfort...

This memory foam cushion is great. Remember that memory foam isn't about being cozy, but is about distributing pressure to prolong comfort. It allows you to sit longer before you get sore compared to ordinary cushions or no cushion. You will still eventually get sore, but if you compare to ordinary cushions, you should last longer before you feel discomfort.

I especially like the non-slip aspect of this. I had used ordinary pillow cushions before and they always slid around and made my back sore as I slipped out of good back alignment and I felt I kept straightening it. With this, it stays exactly where you put it. It has a whole rubber bottom. To be fair, you could use non-slip drawer liner under your normal cushions. But this thing doesn't move, which is great. But it does seem to leave some residue on my chair after sitting on it for 2 months. I peeled it off to shoot the video. But I don't think it is anything to be concerned about.

It is big enough for large chairs. But probably will not fit small narrow chairs, as shown in the video. After 3 months of use, mine still works perfectly. It is tougher when it is newer, so give it a chance and don't judge it on its first use. I use it 1-2 hours every day, and sometimes longer on weekends, and it has not shown any sign of deteriorating. One reviewer mentioned theirs went flat after 6 months of constant use. Mine shows no sign of 3 months (but not used every hour of every day). I am happy with mine and would definitely buy another if I had to do it again.

I recently underwent hip surgery and needed extra support and cushioning to relieve the pressure while sitting in the car for long trips. This cushion fits well in the driver's seat and provides the right amount of cushion (the foam does not collapse) without being too hard. I was pleased with the results; while not pain free, I was certainly much better than would have been the case without the pad. Note, if using in an automobile: I am of just above average height and of average weight; if one is very tall and head clearance is already a concern, be aware that the cushion does raise one up in the seat just a bit. The seat cushion fits in the "bucket" portion of the car seat, that is, it does not cover the side portions of the car seat that typically "cup" the drivers thighs on the sides. Measure your vehicle seat for the best outcome.

Lenox Chirp Comforter Set, Blue

I bought this comforter set and absolutely love it. It is soft and absolutely gorgeous. Loved that it was part of the Lenox Chirp pattern. I also bought several throw pillows, the Euroshams, and the wastebasket and tissue holder from the bath set to coordinate.

Luckily, I've looked in about several stores for this set so I knew what I was getting myself into and got everything I wanted. HOWEVER, Amazon is not offering a very thorough description for this product. The set includes the comforter, two shams, and a bedskirt. This is pretty standard for a comforter set but not made clear by the picture. Its a current design (Winter 2010/2011) so the throw pillows and other accessories are available anywhere that sells Lenox bedding. Also, note that the bedskirt is not designed with slits for it to accommodate a footboard. This is an easy fix though but requires some knowledge of sewing. Also, the bedding is Dry Clean Only! I don't mind this but it can be a deal breaker for some people.

The colors are lighter and more muted than you typically see in the china or bath lines with the Lenox Chirp design. The comforter has very pretty embroidery of stems and leaves but the cute birds are only on the throw pillows which must be ordered separately.

An absolutely lovely comforter set. I've only had it about six weeks but so far it is holding up well even with a rowdy puppy who won't stay off the bed!

I have received a blue greenish comforter with couple of embroidered leaves on it, a bed skirt and 2 pillow cases with embroidered leaves.

Totally not what I have expected, I am very frustrated about the product. In the photo there is a nice blue comforter, 9 embroidered bird pillows, an entire set.

There was no description, I guess I shouldn't buy it without 1. a description, 2 customer's opinion...

And there is no returning policy :(((

The design on the bottom of the comforter is all there is. I was hoping for a little more. I purchased this because I loved the shower curtain so much which I highly recommend. But I was slightly disappointed in this comforter due to the lack of design and the bottom skirt is trimmed with a dark orange color which you can not see very well in this picture. To make your comforter look as extravagant as the picture you will definitely need to purchase the throw pillows which are over priced at $75 a pillow. It would be better off buying the shower curtain and making numerous pillows for the quarter of the price. (I got the shower curtain at bed bath and beyond for $35). I purchased this comforter set off of ebay auction at half the price ... just fyi.

I am happy with this comforter set but wish they simply had more decorations accents similar to the shower curtain. The shower curtain is in an entirely different league compared to the comforter but that's my opinion.

One note----the package says "Dry Clean Only", so dont purchase thinking that this can be thrown in the washing machine. The photo is a little misleading in that you do not get everything pictured, so make sure you read the description closely---decorative pillows and smaller shams are not in the deal. If all you need is the comforter, 2 regular shams and bedskirt, it's a great buy.

Ordered these sheets after reading positive reviews on-line but what I got was definitely NOT 1,000-thread-count cotton, but a blend of cheap, short-fiber cotton and some synthetic material to add luster to the sheets. When I opened the package, the sheets had a strong and unpleasnt chemical smell (unusual for any cotton sheets that I had bought in the past). I decided to pre-wash them before using them. When I took them out of the washer, there were short brown fibers everywhere inside the washer I had never seen this happen even with cheap sheets, and it definitely shouldn't be happening with more expensive sheets, it's a sign of a really cheap material. When I dried the sheets and took them out of the dryer, there were again short fibers flying everywhere, and the material did not feel like a high-thread count cotton at all, but like a synthetic blend. I ended up using these sheets only once they feel so unpleasant, and I don't want to breathe in the loose fibers at night. It's possible that the quality of the sheets sold by this company may very from batch to batch (otherwise I don't know how to explain all the positive reviews), but I decided that buying sheets from unknown companies on Amazon is not worth it. After this debacle, I bought 600-count-thread sheets from one of the "discount retailers" for about the same price, and the difference in quality is apparent (in favor of the discount retailer).

I LOVE these sheets. They are undoubtedly the best I've ever owned. Nice deep color, soft, thick and sturdy. I've owned these for a year and they're still like new. I'm coming back now to order some for the guest bedroom!

well, i am not sure if these sheets are really egyptian cotton. they dont feel like it but i guess they are ok. i thought i had bought 1000-thread and it showed up in a 1500-thread plastic labeled bag. thankfully hubby was still ok with them... didnt want to take the time and money to send them back but they are comfy and we love them. only problem is is that they are a little bit loose in covering the bed. i have a king and i had to buy mattress sheet straps to make them a tight fit

The only way I could've spent my $40 more poorly is if I'd used it to pay someone to punch me in the face.

The fabric used to make this thing is so thin you'd think it was built from crepe paper. It closes via buttons instead of a zipper, which would be fine if not for the fact that the button holes keep tearing. The first one ripped within the first two weeks of owning it, and the rest have torn wide enough that the buttons keep falling it. It's largely due to the fact that the buttonholes are not reinforced in any way. They didn't even fold the fabric. It's just a hole cut into a single ply of the (weak) material.

I suppose it's as much my own fault. I bought this because it was one of the cheaper duvets out there. You get what you pay for. Here's hoping Amazon refunds my wasted forty bucks.

I ordered this pillow due to pressure point pain in my neck from my other very old, hard pillows. I figured that the price was right and it was worth trying something different--plus, I was tired of having a sore neck! This little pillow has been wonderful so far. There's no angle that isn't comfortable on it. It's just right too--not super soft but not really hard either...the "Goldilocks" pillow. Perfection! I'd definitely recommend it. For the price and the comfort, you can't go wrong. In fact, I just ordered two more for the rest of the family (since they keep stealing mine!).

Bought this pillow to help sleep better. While it's a bit better than my regular bed pillows, the heft (height of the pillow) is just shy of where I need it to be. If I sleep on it by itself it's a little low but if I put anything under it, it's too high to be comfortable. Needs another inch to be perfect!

It is comfortable and not outrageously priced so I'm keeping it but can't help but wish there was more to this pillow.

When this bedset arrived, I was very pleased. The design is gorgeous. The only problem is it gets dirty pretty quickly and it's dry-clean only. This set would be great for a guest-bedroom as people will be impressed with it and it won't be used frequently. For the master bedroom? I would not get it simply because no one wants to dry-clean their bedsheets all the time.

Disney Princess Twin Comforter is sized just right for a twin bed. I wish It would have come with a bed skirt. My grand-daugher loves Tiana. She isn't usually shown as one of the most popular princesses so I am glad she was on this. Pretty true to color as shown. The colors make it easy to incorporate other colors to the room. It obviously isn't the best of quality but why pay more for better quality when kids grow out of things so fast. It will certainly last as long as needed.

NCAA Boise State Broncos Bedding Set

This is the cheapest bed set I have ever purchased. There was no way I could use the bed sheets with the comforter. The sheets were so slippery, that during the night, as my son moved, the comforter would fall off of the slippery bed and the sheets would become untucked and he would end up uncovered. Horrible. The quality of the comforter is a cheap character sleeping bag, at best. I threw away the sheets and pillow case. I had to purchase new sheets from Penneys, orange, so they make the inexpensive comforter look cute against them. The comforter had strings all over it, and I bet after a few washes, it will also have holes. Problem is, my son likes the way it looks in his room (it does LOOK cute) and it was a gift from Santa. So I did not send it back. WAY, WAY, WAY too much money for the quality. If this set was about $40.00, I'd say go ahead because you get what you pay for. This set is just junk.

The color, size, price, and words "Down Filled" got me to purchase this item. I got them out of the box and they felt super empty. My roommate and I tried fluffing them up and airing them out, which only led to feathers falling all over the place. We really tried to make it work because we hate returning online purchases, but these can't support your head/neck any better than a sweatshirt rolled into a ball.

I highly recommend going to your local costco and picking up their throw pillows they're 5 dollars each, way fuller, softer, and more comfortable.

I needed bright red pillows for my accent color in my living room and these are more of a burnt red.

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but the photo shows a vibrant red, not a dull, dark red.

They would be lovely... IF THEY WERE THE COLOR I NEEDED!

These are very nice pillows. When you first get them, they appear a bit flat. However if you wash them in the gently cycle of your washing machine and let them air dry, they plump up nicely. Excellent buy for the price.

I usually buy new couch cushions once a year because my old ones get dirty or torn from my 2 year old and large dog. I have only had these for a few months but I don't think I will have that problem! The covers are removable so that easily takes care of cleaning them. And the fabric seems to be very durable. If for some reason they do get a hole I could get someone to make a new cover easily:)

Some of the reviews said they aren't very full and kind of flat but I think they are perfect. I love the real down feel, they seem very sturdy? I love the color too, we bought new brown furniture, painted the walls green, and I really wanted a red accent color and this was perfect. I am hoping to find curtains that match the color because I really love it.

i wanted to wait and use them out before writing a review. 2 weeks now and washed twice. i have to say that i was more than circumspect when i ordered these; half expected to be disappointed and send them back. These look good, the pink isn't obnoxious Barbie pink, the silk is relatively heavy and strong, no defects in the stitching, very slick looking. If you want really great silk sheets, this is it.

A few things you might not expect, they are really slippery, and really warm. They have a tendency to slide around more than cotton sheets.

Silk is a remarkably good insulator, and if you live in a hot climate, you might want to use a bottom silk sheet and a cotton top sheet. I recommend Thomas Lee PerfectCale cotton sheets to anyone.

If you live in Minnesota though, silk sheets would be great all the time.

These sheets are super thin! I love thick heavy sheets which is why I go for the higher thread counts. I have 400 thread count sheets that are better quality than these. Luckily the seller I purchased them from took them back and gave a speedy reimbursement!
