When I first opened the sheets I was surprised by how rough they were, but don't do as I did and let first impressions fool you. I had spent hours of research looking for the best sheets on the market. 100% Egyptian cotton, the best. Single ply yarn, the sturdiest (and most honest thread count). Sateen, the softest and a personal favorite. Then the thread count. Which to choose? 1500tc is the highest, supposedly the best and definitely the costliest, so I picked midway (650tc) for my first experience. To soften them I threw them into a warm wash and hot dryer and had lots of wrinkles, but I put them on my bed anyway. By bedtime the wrinkles were almost gone as I slid into the not-so-rough, thick sheets. Eventually, I learned the tricks/lessons of high quality sheets: 1) Wash a couple of times before use to get the factory starch out of them; 2) Dry in a WARM dryer and if possible, make your bed immediately while they're still warm, 3) Never EVER wash them in bleach, it always weakens the threads and WILL tear easily; and 4) Start looking forward to climbing into bed each night, because the sheets get softer and softer with each night's use. Soon, you'll have a loving affection for them! They were the exact color as shown in the picture. I have to stuff some of the extra fitted sheet under the foot of my mattress because my bed isn't quite as deep as the sheets, but it's better to have too much than too little; plus it gives me the option to add more eggcrates if desired or buy a whole new mattress in the future! I have a feeling these sheets will be lasting a VERY long time!
