I purchased this item as a gift for my husband. He's a very light sleeper and has a hard time staying asleep at night. He was constantly exhausted due to lack of sleep but that didn't help him stay asleep at night. He was using sleeping pills every night but still never felt rested. After just one week of use this machine had him sleeping like a baby at night and waking well rested in the morning. As a result he's reduced his caffeine consumption from 4 cups to 1 cup per day, which has only further improved his sleep. He's very grateful for the natural solution to a chronic problem. Highly recommended, and we literally received this one day after placing the order.
Now for the BUT if you are looking for an easy to use and effective alarm clock, this may not be the one. It only has one alarm which is extremely slow to set, having only one button to set it forward and not back if you overshoot. Although it has an effective beep for the alarm, if you choose to wake via sounds, the only choice is the one you fell asleep to. Hard to get out of bed with the relaxing sounds of waves or hypnotic spa rhythms! Wish you could set separate sounds for sleep and wake. The long snooze duration, a full 10 minutes that cannot be changed is a bit too long, just long enough to fall back asleep completely. Its also far too easy to mistakenly hit the snooze button twice, which effectively turns off the alarm for the day. These flaws make for a frustrating alarm clock, even thought the unit is the best sleep aid I've ever used.

The clock function buttons are a bit stiff but the sleep function and the sounds are great. I haven't used the spa sound card yet. I have always had trouble falling asleep but I am finally able to get to sleep.I have had a basic Brookstone sound machine that is a good 10 years old and was ready to upgrade. I am always so relaxed and sleepy when I am at the spa or getting a massage so I thought the Spa Sound card would be a nice change from the usual ocean sounds and thunderstorms. I like that this machine is very light and there are a lot of cool features like the "sleep enhancement" button that gradually slows the sounds down as the timer goes down and so somehow is supposed to lull you gently not just cut off abruptly. I am usually asleep way before then so cannot tell you if its true but I suppose it works as I have not had any trouble falling asleep. I like the different sounds and the music. I have had this for a week and half now and am loving it EXCEPT the alarm and clock setting feature. You have to set it with only one button and can not set the hour, minutes and am/pm separetely. So setting the alarm to one time and then trying to change it to another is nearly impossible. I use my phone as an alarm so it is not a hige deal for me. If you are looking for great sound machine I reccomend this. If looking an easy clock/alarm, not so much.I love the white noise sound. It truly helps me sleep more deeply. It masks room noises and is great as a sleep enhancer.The clock is another matter. In the past week, it has simply frozen like the North Pole more than six times in 7 days! The only solution is to take out all four batteries and find the tiny reset hole in at the bottom of the battery compartment, poke it with a paper clip and then reset the clock time and the alarm time....V E R Y, V E R Y S L O W L Y!! Do not overshoot the time you need on either function. You have to go back around a full 24 hours to try to get it right again. I read all the reviews before I ordered this machine and thought the others were being "picky" about the difficult setting procedures. Now, I know better. Thankfully, I am retired and do not have to depend on an alarm clock to get up and out of the house and to work on time.
I would not recommend this item as a clock. I have had no problem with the sound cards and the noises available are extremely soothing.
