The cushion is fairly firm. Even after using it for a month, I wouldn't call it soft at all. It's better than the hard seat of my chair, but I'd hesitate to call it comfortable. It's also fairly short front to back. This means much of the seat is left uncovered in my executive-style chair. This means I always have to adjust it before I sit down, so that I'm actually sitting on the cushion instead of just the front part of it. I can't imagine using this with the strap around the spine of a more standard office chair. There wouldn't be much of anything to sit on.
Part of the above is exacerbated by the wedge shape of the cushion. The front is smaller than the back, so it constantly wants to squish to the back of the seat as you sit on it. This makes adjusting position in your chair or getting up and sitting back down lead to having to readjust the cushion a lot.
I don't recommend this cushion, but it's usable and better than the $5 foam pads you can buy at Walmart, etc..

Got this for my home office. I have to sit for about 8-9 hours a day. I have had back problems for many years. This product didn't make much difference on comfort or ease the pain. It was just extra cushion. This is very thick. It will raise you about 2-3 inch. If you are 5'8 or less, using this product might take your feet off the ground (depends on the height of your chair as well). I don't think it is worth $50 (including shipping). This is a very comfortable seat cushion and I couldn't ask for a better one. Many of the reviews recommended getting this larger size--it is definitely more than adequate for my backside but perhaps a bit on the large size for the size of chairs I was using it on. I'm a light bloke (~135 pounds) and this certainly had adequate padding for my needs--I found myself sliding forward a bit because of the angle, but it really wasn't a problem. I am pleased with the product, though it would be nice if the price were a bit less.
