Sleep Innovations Contour Memory Foam Pillow

There are too many shady memory foam products in the market that you just have to question the quality. Well, with Sleep Innovations penetrating the scene, I'm glad there is a true competitor that will give Tempur Pedic a run for it's money.

I've purchased a Tempur Pedic pillow and it does speak of quality in terms of material and manufacturing. The memory foam at that time was very dense and therefore heavy than any pillow you've seen. This was thought to equate to quality.

Fast forward to 2010 and people realised the dense foam didn't promote air flow and equated to a very warm product. So the trend this time is an "open cell" memory foam that had the ability to let air flow within the foam and create a cooler sleeping environment.

I like the feel of this Sleep Innovations Contour Pillow. It's not as dense or heavy as the Tempur Pedic variety which is now old school, and it definitely does the job of promoting good sleeping posture all at a fraction of the cost.

Unpacking:

The pillow is wrapped in a plastic bag which when you open will release an odour that some people may find too "chemical" smelling. Just leave it to aerate for 24 hours if it bothers you. I didn't mind the smell and was able to use it from day 1 of purchasing it.

Features:

1. I like the concept of having two raised edges with different heights to suite different sleeping styles. Use any side that closely matches the height to softly cradle your neck.

I find it perfect to use the higher raised edge when sleeping on my side (due to the distance of your shoulder to your neck). Then if I feel like sleeping on my back I just turn it around to use the lower raised side. Of course, all this is a matter of body structure so your mileage will definitely vary.

2. The manufacturer claims that their memory foam is naturally hypo-allergenic and resistant to dust mites. Time will tell from fellow reviewers if this claim holds true.

3. Open Cell technology rather than the old school dense memory foam. This makes for a lighter and cooler sleeping product.

4. What's great is the fact that this is made in the USA which is rare these days. I appreciate this because I know there is accountability in the manufacturing process where the use of unapproved materials or manufacturing process has frequently come into question.

Conclusion:

If you've never tried a contour pillow before, price and quality for this pillow will give you more than enough reasons to make the switch.

I bought this pillow at Costco roughly 5 years ago and even till now I'm still using it. It's my favorite pillow of all time! The main reason I like the Sleep Innovations contour brand is because it is still firm after all these years, keeping its memory shape. The pillow cover is pretty soft and good quality fabric too. Only thing is one of the zippers broke after about a year of washing.

Update (11/23/2010):

I bought another one @ Costco roughly 3 weeks ago and decided to see if it's the same quality as the one I used for 1/2 a decade. One thing I noticed right away was the pillow fabric that came w/ this pillow; it's very bad..I think it's like 150-200 thread count...very rough. Well this is fixable; I bought some nice 400-thread pillow covers to go over this and it works great.

The firmness is still great! The size is the same as well. It does have a slight smell (nothing too strong) to the pillow, but it goes away after a couple of days.

Something to add to this is if you've never had a contour pillow before, you may need a little time to get use to it. It's not that it's uncomfortable, but it's the shape of the pillow. Ideal when sleeping on your side because of the firmness (and the shape), your shoulders and neck doesn't feel like it's getting pressure from your head.

While I don't normally write reviews, I was motivated to write one for this pillow because it deserves more positive feedback.

First, allow me to make a disclaimer: this pillow does not sink to fit the contours of your fingers when you press it with your palm, like the Temperpedic pillows do, but it does bounce back to its usual shape within seconds after you release the pressure.

With that said, the pillow has surpassed my expectations by far. After using a less-dense memory foam pillow that did not adequately support my neck, I was thrilled to find that this 3-pound dense pillow supported my neck at the optimal position and eliminated my occasional neck pain over night!!! Be careful which side of the pillow you use: the taller side is too high for my neck, so I use the lower side.

I really don't think I could have purchased a better pillow for this price, and I really love my investment!! I recommend this pillow without hesitations!!

I was expecting "memory foam" to mean that when I laid my head on the pillow it would conform to the shape of my head and neck and stay that way as long as I stayed in the same position. That was not the case at all. In fact I found the pillow to be kind of hard. I am a medium sized woman and found the pillow made for a larger head because my head did not even reach the indented part of the pillow and instead sat on the first bump of it. I actually turned it upside down where there are no indentations at all and I can use it that way just fine but that was not the purpose for which I bought a memory foam pillow in the first place. It is my first memory foam pillow ever and I thought that it was worth a try for the price.

I am a skeptic, and I couldn't believe this would be as good as everyone says it is.

I've given it almost two weeks now.

This helps my pain.

This cray-cray pillow of (seriously) sharp needle-like plastic bits has helped me to the point that I've had about four ibuprofens in two weeks (instead of four every four hours).

Full disclosure: it hurts to start out. Yes, it does. MAN the first time I used it I wondered if it was worth it. Then, about five minutes in, my neck started to warm up. Then my whole body relaxed. I can't explain this, it just worked. After fifteen minutes, I had to have help up, and then I tottered off to bed where I took a mammoth nap.

After about a week of using it, it gets easier to lie on -any pain there is is gone within 60 seconds. Then the heat starts, and then the relaxation. I'm lying on it once during the day, and just before I got to sleep, 15 minutes each time, and I'm sleeping better than I have in SO long. It has literally chased away every headache I've gotten. (It did NOT chase away the hormonal migraine I get every month, but it did help with the nausea.)

I love it. Oh, that endorphin rush and the resulting warm happiness! I'm buying another one for my work locker so that if I forget it I'm not without it. Best purchase I've made in a very, very long time

This pillow rocks! I originally got it for a stiff neck and migraines. It does take a little to get used to but after awhile it is like an amazing mini massage for the neck and base of the head. When I use it, I usually lie on it for 10-15 minutes and gently move my head/neck around to get other pressure points. I also have the mat but have a preference to using the pillow.

Don't just take my recommendation. A friend came over for the weekend and developed a nasty crick in her neck with a headache. I put her on this pillow and after a few minutes of whining about the pain, she fell asleep! When she woke up, she said her headache and her stiff neck were gone. She loved the pillow and kept using it all weekend because it relaxed her so much. She is now looking to buy her own Bed of Nails pillow.

You do have to be careful moving the pillow because I've gotten scratched by the plastic nails a number of times. It isn't a deal-killer because I love the pillow, it's just something to keep in mind.

I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, neck and head! My upper back and neck are always tensed and tight. A session on this pillow does releive the tension, increases blood flow to the area, and makes me more relaxed. I gave this pillow 4 stars instead of 5 because I believe that the effects could be GREATLY increased if the foam material in the pillow were memory foam instead of just foam rubber.

The problem is the pillow does not conform adequately to the contours of your head/neck/shoulders and therefore some areas are not stimulated/relieved by the "nails". If memory foam were used, I think this would be a 10 star product!!

The one spot that my acupressure mat couldn't get to comfortably was my neck. I couldn't seem to arrange my pillows so that the mat was in the right place. So I ordered the pillow. Somehow the spikes seem sharper on the pillow and it has taken me a little longer to get used to it. I still like it and I'm using it every day. I have finally been able to use it without a pillowcase and the tension in my neck and upper back is definitely less than before I started using it.

I bought this hoping it would help my fibromyalgia. I received acupuncture before, so I thought this pillow would help. Very uncomfortable. I CAN see how it would work for others though. Just not for people with chronic pain issues.

I ordered these sheets mainly because of the extra pillowcases and the deep pockets. I have had trouble before with fitted sheets covering my thick mattress, but this fitted sheet with elastic all around fits my California King with room to spare. I am relatively happy with them. My two complaints would be first that they are too thin for my taste, but they are also very lightweight and cool. Second is that I ordered beige and they are more of a greenish color. They do wash well but wrinkle badly. I am not sure if I would order again.

I love the color; however, the fabric is mediocre. I ordered the California King, and the fit is loose on my twelve inch mattress. It would probably fit a deeper pillow-top well. I like it well enough to have already ordered a second set to use as curtain fabric.

These sheets were surprisingly soft, much nicer fabric than I had expected. Washed up nicely, too. And that makes the price for them even better!

Royal Hotel's Solid Sage 1200 Thread Count 4pc Queen Bed Sheet Set 100% Egyptian Cotton, Sateen Soli

The thread count on this item is overstated... by at least a 3-to-1 ratio. I think they're using the plies (strands that make up threads) count rather than the actual thread count and overstating / falsely advertising it. Unfortunately this is a widespread problem with most retailers. I am no longer going to buy sheets without physically checking them first, and even then it is hard to tell what you're getting. I suggest sticking to something that seems soft and comfortable (rub it on the inside of your elbow) and forgetting the thread number.

Our 800 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets are thicker and feel better than these. The sheets aren't bad, but this is the last time I'll trust thread-count claims on Amazon.

The shipment was slow and I tried to cancel it but I'm kind of glad now that I was a little too late for the cancellation. As it turned, the pillow case is of an excellent quality. I washed it as soon as I got it, put it in the dryer. Though it came out a little wrinkled, it smoothed out very nicely after I put it on my euro pillow. I think the price is excellent. I paid more for a cotton case I bought last year and that one did not have a zipper, just an overlapping closure in the back which is very annoying as it tends to open and squeeze out part of the pillow. I'm very happy with this one. I've searched around for a long time to find a euro pillow case with a zipper, but I never had any luck. Thanks again, Amazon, for carrying an item (at a very reasonable price) that is practically impossible to get anywhere else.

Great deal and very good for the money. It did not fit my pillow....it would be better served for a 24x24 pillow than a 26x26. If you have a very flat pillow, it might fit.

This pillowcase is very soft and is comfortable against the face. The zipper is very helpful in making sure it stays on the pillow without being large enough to poke you or be noticeable in any way when your sleeping. So far I feel it is a very good product.

Good quality cotton. Good size for standard pillows. I actually was looking for something slightly smaller, as it wanted a tight fit on my latex pillows. This one actually shrunk a tiny bit after washing on hot, so it worked out well. Zipper is a little larger than I would like, but not overly so. Pillowcases slip easily over it. I had been buying allergy proof protectors, but I've found them to be too stiff. These are nice enough that I bought two more.

The pillows were part of the the sheet set that I got.

Since the pillows are decorative, I didn't wash it before putting it on the bed (I wanted the cripiness of the fabric without the work :-). The pillows were a nice topper to the whole collection. The embroidery on the top is very well done elevated, smooth with no snags, and the bottom side is cleanly finished. The edges sharp, no excessive puckering.

Lamma Loe Complete Bed Sheet Set

I received these sheets and loved how soft they were. However, I noticed there were some weird discolorations spots on random parts of the sheets (almost like a grease spot) and pillow cases. I contacted the seller and they replied back within a few hours with an apology and a tracking number for my new sheets. I had the replacement sheets within only a few days. I also didn't have to hassle with returning anything. I am in love with these sheets and its nice to know that in the event something does go wrong it will be made right. Highly, Highly recommend!

This is an update on a previous review I had written, in which I strongly encouraged people to buy these sheets. I am so embarrassed at my endorsement! And I hope that no one bought them on my advice.

While these sheets come out of the package looking and feeling fabulous, after less than ONE MONTH they are so beaded and pilled that it is like sleeping on sand. I think I've bought sheets from the clearance aisle before and have never had this problem. I am really irritated, I could have just bought better sheets in the first place and saved myself the hassle and money of trying these. I guess maybe if they were for a guest bedroom that wasn't used very often they would be alright, but be aware that they lose quality quickly.

PLEASE save yourself the headache and don't buy these sheets!

The sheets are of synthetic material, for which I think the price is too high. I really think that amazon needs to remove the word "Egyptian" from the description, it makes one think of cotton too easily. I feel a little stupid not to have read the exact fine print and was expecting cotton. Should have known better!

Actually, in the pictures for this particular pillow, the colors look a little muted but in reality, the colors are richer. This pillow goes great with the set and has the authentic vintage look to it. This one goes for only $15 and is cheaper than any pillow you could find at Target! There are several other different pillows in the set that complements this. Try to look for them as well using keyword 'terracotta'. Not sure if backyardbargain is the only company selling this but that's where I got mine from. I have four different ones from the set and they make my bedding set look simply exquisite!

The sheets are darker than the picture they are a medium to dark taupe. The sheets have a soft silky feel. They are a little lighter weight than your typical cotton sheets, probably due to the use of finer strands of thread. They seem luxurious. The sheets have a slight sheen which makes them look high-end, but they are not slippery. These were purchased to be a gift and I was very happy with the packaging and presentation. The recipient is very particular and they liked the sheets just as well as their 100% silk sheets. The sheets were a big hit. I will try to update the review if there are any problems after they are washed a few times.

Foot Levelers Pillo-Pedic Pillows

I got some info about how neck pain is generally because you sleep with the wrong pillow! I was using what my husband called a smoosh bomb. Soft, down cuddly. But over time it was due to be replaced so when I read about the neck pain cause, I did some investigation. I found an article on the prevention magazine about 9 pillows that are worth the money. I bought the Extra because that is the one they recommended. I really like it and at first it does feel really hard. I've now been using it for about a week and I'm sold. It is very nice and no more neck pain. I'm very impressed. I will purchase a travel one because I think I'm sold enough that I wouldn't want to not have it with me when I travel LOL.

I do not know how long it will last or should last that is why I gave it 4 not 5 stars. Since I'm new with it, I didn't want to go overboard.

I did not find this pillow comfortable for my neck problems. I also did not like that it was not returnable after being tried out for a few minutes with a pillowcase on because it had been removed from its sealed plastic wrapper. I understand they want it to be hygenic, so that is understandable as far as not re-using it for another customer, but it was an expensive purchase to have no recourse when it was found to be uncomfortable.

I've owned two of these pillows and am about to buy a third just because I haven't found anything better yet. For the first two weeks, it feels like you're sleeping on cardboard. After that, the foam starts to collapse. If you switch from back to side sleeping during the night, you need to rotate the pillow since those positions are on opposite sides. The pillow is not washable. My pillows have lasted about 1 1 1/2 years before total collapse to the point where there isn't sufficient support anymore.

I have used this pillow for years. This most recent order is my 3rd or 4th pillow. I am terribly disappointed. The center of the pillow which use to softly cradle your head while your neck was firmly supported is now filled with a much denser and harder material so that the goal of the pillow is defeated! Your head sits up as high or actually higher than your neck. It gives me a headache! The manufacturer's suggestion to fold and bend the pillow to soften this material has not helped at all. They say they made this change because customers complained about the material breaking down too fast --but actually I believe it must be a cost saving measure because I cannot imagine how anyone with a bad neck would think this is a superior option.!. And my previous pillow lasted >5 yrs which I would not call 'breaking down too fast'.

The mini traveler pillow isn't even that!! I have one of those from before too -but this new one must be the child's pillow because the neck support dimensions are tiny and not sized for adults. I've emailed the manufacturer several times. They are not much help. :(

Silent Vibrating Personal Alarm Clock "Shake-N-Wake"

I just bought a shake-n-wake through Amazon, and also was troubled by the hourly chime, the "major design flaw" mentioned in another review.

I discovered that pressing the "Time Set" and "Mode" button simultaneously toggles the hourly chime on and off. When the date display indicates "SU MO TU WE TH FR SA" after pressing these buttons simultaneously, the hourly chime is on. The date display will go blank after toggling the hourly chime off.

You surely will want to turn the hourly chime off. Your local church may get away with ringing its bells every hour, but your shake-n-wake must not. It is disappointing that the instructions do not mention this feature, and that customer support was not able to help the person who wrote the earlier review.

I'm an Amazon Prime Member and purchase a lot of things. This by far has been my best purchase; because it changes how your entire day goes from the moment you wake up.

I have had this alarm clock for about 2 months now. My Wife and I just had a baby recently and she sleeps beside our bed for the time being; the baby, not the wife. Before I got this Vibrating Alarm Clock I used my usual phone alarm clock to wake me up. I'm hard to wake up too. The phone would go off and wife would wake up, dogs would wake up, baby would obviously wake up and in a panic, I'm trying to shut off my phone in a dizzy haze. Sometimes hitting the snooze and repeating if it didn't happen to wake everyone up the first time, or the phone would just lock up and not go off and I would be late to work. Talk about rough mornings.

Now with the Shake-n-Wake Alarm Clock I wear it on my wrist at night. I wake up very early in the morning to run before I go to work. It vibrates and wakes me up without fail every single time without startling me. I'm not in a panic to shut it off in fear of waking everyone up. I get in my run before work and the rest of the day is splendid, not to mention the wife, and baby get to sleep a few more hours.

A few people have mentioned the hourly alarm annoyance flaw. Not a flaw, just an option. Maybe the flaw was it was left out of some of the instructions. I shut it off day one and it never comes back. Just pressing the "Time Set" and "Mode" button simultaneously toggles the hourly chime on and off. When the date display indicates "SU MO TU WE TH FR SA" after pressing these buttons simultaneously, the hourly chime is on. The date display will go blank after toggling the hourly chime off. Very easy, not worth even close to trashing this product over that.

I've also heard people complain about the arm strap. I've not had any problems with mine and wearing it 5 days a week for 2 months now and does not look to be wearing out. I imagine if it does ever break I will quickly be at the fabric store fix it or make a new one. I love this thing and after my baby moves to her nursery, I'm sure I'll still be wearing it. Even if I'm alone in bed, I'll probably still use it, because even as hard as it is to wake me up with a loud alarm clock, the Shake-n-Wake wakes me up nice and easy.

My kid wears hearing aids, due to severe hearing loss, so she finds it hard to wake up to an alarm. I found this item on Amazon.com and have had a lot of success with it. Once we set the time and alarm time, there is a switch on or off, that my daughter uses to activate it. She puts it on her arm, and is vibrates continually until she turns it off. She has noticed that it also vibrates every hour, a few quick vibrations, then off on it's own ~ not sure how to turn that feature off, but other than that we love it. She has her independence without waking up the rest of the house to loud obnoxious alarms or one of us having to get up to wake her up.

I'm a heavy sleeper, and it always wakes me up if I have someplace important to be. For peace of mind, I still set a back-up alarm across the room to go off 5 minutes later. To the watch's credit, the backup has never been necessary in the many months I've used the watch. When I want to wake up on the weekend, though, I tend to fumble with the buttons when it vibrates, and turn it off without actually waking up. (This coming from a guy who used to require a password-protected alarm clock to wake up for work.)

Pros: Inexpensive, easy battery replacement, clip on back so you can use it without the strap, and totally reliable for me (depends on how you sleep and wake).

Cons: Bulky, slips off the strap when awake (but not yet while sleeping, and I toss and turn a lot!), and very short backlight time.

Other notes: Another commenter already pointed this out, but the instructions that come with the watch made no mention of the hourly chime. Hold 'Reset/Time Set' and press 'Mode' to clear the 'SU M TU W TH F SA' to deactivate the chime. There's also a snooze function, which I think is activated by hitting any of the buttons except the light button.

Now that I trust that vibrations will wake me, I'm going to give the WobL 8 Alarm Vibrating Watch Silver a try, mainly because it's less bulky.

I have to wake up early for work and I hate having a loud alarm that wakes up my girlfriend as well, so I was delighted when she bought me this.

It is a little bit on the loud side, but generally not loud enough to wake up my girlfriend who sleeps right next to me.

I typically strap the alarm to my ankle to ensure that I feel it going off (I sleep heavily). I find the strap too annoying to wear on my wrist, but it's fine on my ankle. The clip that attaches to the strap is a bit poorly designed, so it occasionally falls off of me in my sleep -maybe once per month or less. I have a backup alarm for this situation that I always turn off after the Shake-N-Wake wakes me up.

Recently it started going off every hour and I couldn't use it; the instruction guide does not explain how to turn this setting on or off. Luckily, one of the other Amazon reviewers explained how to do so: you just press Reset/Time Set and Mode simultaneously. When the hourly alarm is turned on, it will show SU M TU W TH F SA at the top as you hold these two buttons; when you deactivate it, it will show no days while you are holding the buttons. Thanks for figuring this out, other reviewer!

If the buzzing was a little less loud I'd give this a 5-star rating, but it suits my needs well, and it may the case for heavier sleepers that the louder buzzing is useful. I can imagine that it would be very useful for people who:

1) Sleep with a partner but don't want to wake up the partner

2) Are heavy sleepers who will be more likely to wake up with a physical component to their alarm

3) Want to sleep/take naps in certain situations without a loud alarm going off, like on a plane, waiting for a bus, etc.

This is a very pretty pillow that coordinates beautifully with the 'Avery' set, but please be aware that the main portion of green in the entire 'Avery' set, (other than in the leaves), is a very muted gray-green, not a soft sage green as is shown in some of the photos.
