Basic Mattress Protector

We purchased this mattress protector for my toddler's bed as it was recommended highly by the mattress vendor. However, it leaked badly when he had an accident in his bed and we ended up with a very wet mattress. We called the company to report the defective mattress protector and they put us through an extensive process of collecting information from the protector, faxing in multiple documents, designating the leaky areas of the protector and finally shipping it back to them. We then received a call from Protect-a-bed and said that they concluded that YESthe protector we had was indeed leaky (gee thanks!) but it was user error and NOT a manufacturer defect so they are not responsible! The customer service agent told me that we must not have followed the directions to wash and dry it properly which cause the protective barrier to warp. I responded that we had not even washed it prior to putting it on his bed so it could not have been our fault. AnyhowI definitely do not recommend purchasing from this company as they do not have a quality product nor do they honor their warranty.

This is the "Basic" model of the Protect-A-Bed Mattress Protector. Just make sure you know what you're getting. The "Basic" protector has a bit of a plastic feel. It correspondingly has a bit of a plastic noise when you lay on it. It's not like the cheap mattress protectors that can be REALLY loud and crinkly, and I think it's fine for a child's bed. But it wouldn't be desirable on an adult bed. Alternatively, Protect-A-Bed sells a "Premium" Mattress Protector, offering the same mattress protection, but with a more breathable, more plush (terry cloth-like) fabric, which is an excellent choice for adult beds. As long as you know what you're getting, this one can be a good choice, and it's worth spending the money over the louder mattress covers.

Updated review: This protector seemed to work well at first so we bought a 2nd one but after 1-year the newer protector started leaking and after 1.5 yrs the older one started leaking. Maybe it leaked as other noted because the company said it was not properly cared for. I know we washed and dried it multiple times but no matter what, it failed and the mattress got wet. :-(

I would not recommend this brand/model. I will try a different one in the future and will pay more for hopefully one that is more durable/reliable.

It protects the mattress better than nothing at all but is not truly waterproof. I still need to put blankets between the protector and the mattress to soak up the leakage.

This product claims to have a warranty and will come clean your mattress if anything gets through. What they DONT tell you is that they must first "inspect" the mattress. I never once laundered my brand new Protect A bed and when it was stained, I sent it to the company as directed and they said they were not liable because the leakage was caused by abrasions due to it being laundered. They would not work with me AT ALL. Horrible Company. Horrible customer service! I do not recommend buying this product.
