Our name-brand spring mattress was too firm and uncomfortable for me, but was comfortable for my husband. Rather than buying an expensive bed with different firmness options on each side, I began looking into twin-size viscoelastic mattress toppers, figuring that I could place one on just my side of our queen-size bed. I ended up buying this one just over a year ago because it is 4-lb foam (as opposed to the 2.5-lb. foam used in many of the cheaper toppers).Using this topper on just half of a queen-size bed (a use for which it is not specifically designed) does have its aesthetic drawbacks: when you look at the bed, my side is noticeably higher than my husband's side, and you can also clearly see that the topper overhangs the edge of the bed by quite a bit. So if a neatly made bed is important to you, this solution may not be for you. (Of course, if you buy a topper that actually fits the entire top surface of your mattress, the appearance will probably be much neater; I'm only describing the way a twin-size topper fits one-half of a queen-size bed.) Nevertheless, it has provided us with an affordable alternative to buying a completely new mattress.
Some people who buy toppers like this one seem to regard the improvement in their sleep comfort level as near-miraculous; perhaps their beds were worse to begin with, because I wouldn't go that far in my praise. However, the topper has definitely helped me sleep better and more comfortably. I am able to lie in a given position for a much longer period of time, and I no longer wake up constantly in order to turn over. I have had this topper for over a year now, and it is holding up extremely well; I can't yet detect any decrease in comfort.
Finally, a word or two about the smell of viscoelastic foam: With this topper, I found that the smell did gradually go away; I don't remember how long it took to do so, but I think it was probably at least a couple of weeks before it dropped to a level where I ceased to notice it. If you are sensitive to smells, you may find that you notice it for longer than that, so please do take that into consideration when buying memory foam bedding.
If you need a new bed, get a new bed. However, if you have a perfectly good bed that is just a bit too firm for you, a viscoelastic mattress topper like this one may be just the ticket.

I paid more than I originally wanted for this item, but it has turned out to be such a great

This memory foam has significantly increased my sleep quality. Love it! It does have a strong memory even after 7 months.Also, there has been no strong smell at all. Perhaps it's because I cover it with a mattress pad, but I really can't smell anything from it since the second night. The free pillow is nice, but it has turned entirely yellow in a short time still functional though.
