Serta Latex Contour Pillow

While a wildly comfortable pillow, the Serta 2-Layer has a few drawbacks of which you should be aware. Here's the low-down:

Pros:

-Conforms to the head nearly as well as a Tempurpedic. Extremely comfortable for side-sleepers! On this aspect, I was truly impressed!

-Has a zip-off, washable cover. (Tempurpedic pillows do not have zip-off covers).

-Carefully packaged. Sealed in plastic to prevent contamination and then housed in a thick cardboard box (recyclable) to prevent any sort of en-route trauma.

-Excellent price!

Potential cons:

-There is (initially) an unpleasant odor (as with Serta's other pillows in this line). As indicated in the booklet, this begins to dissipate after the first twenty-four hours. Those with sensitivities may need to unwrap this product and leave it exposed to air for a few days.

-The pillow is surprisingly small (in length, width, and height). My standard pillow-case is considerably too large for it ... as is the pillow-protector I purchased for it. I checked Amazon and the Serta website, but could not locate ones specifically made for this pillow.

Admittedly, I am confounded by the absence of adequate covers for this pillow, but if an ill-fitting cover is the price I pay for a (very) comfortable night's sleep ... that's fine. Overall, it's a good product at a great price. (By the way, if any customers locate a suitable protector/cover for this pillow, please feel free to comment here! It would be very much appreciated!)

These types of pillows seem to have gotten better in the past couple of years. The main problem I always saw with memory foam pillows was that they tended to mold to one's head too much and inevitably lost their supportive function which resulted in stiff neck and shoulders as well as headaches.

This is the second foam pillow I bought this year, the other being a Carpenter Therapedic Backsense Avena Sure Support Contour Pillow. Both pillows are strikingly similar in weight, feel and support they provide: Both are light-weight, both are easily squeezed and both give great support without the old memory foam feeling of "sinking in". Where they differ: The Serta apparently achieves this support through a Latex layer on top of the memory foam and I must say that it does a great job. From the first night on I felt like I was tossing and turning significantly less and that I got much better sleep. The pillow feels sufficiently soft yet provides all the support I need for my neck.

Having had cervical spine surgery 6 months ago, it is very important to me to use a pillow that helps put my head in a good position, preventing further problems down the road and assisting with the bone fusion still in progress. So far the Serta works perfectly. The question will be how well it holds up over time. I got the same good results from the Carpenter Avena Sure Support at first but then the pillow felt just a bit too soft after we had removed a memory foam mattress pad to get a firmer sleeping surface. I tended to wake up stiff and not well rested whether this was due to the firmer mattress or whether the pillow material had softened a bit, I am not sure.

For now I am happy with the Serta and hope that the Latex will preserve the supportive function permanently or at least over a longer period of time. I will post an update should something change over the coming months.

I'm always wary of buying a new pillow because my arthritic neck needs support or I really feel it in the morning. And of course, pillows aren't returnable. I didn't want just memory foam, which gets too soft after a while. This one is comfy and provides good support. Excellent for the price.

I have been using this pillow for almost a month now. It is really comfortable and provides great neck support. It is definitely smaller than a standard pillow, but that does not bother me at all. When you pull it out of the packaging, it does have a slight odor, but once I put the pillow case on, I didn't notice it.

The only downside is that Amazon shipped it in a box that was abut 20 times larger than the pillow, and that box is still living in my office...

I've tried these pillows before and they have always proven to be uncomfortable for me. I wasn't expecting much out of this Serta 2. I have slept with it for 2 nights now and much to my surprise it is very comfortable. I normally sleep with 2 pillows at night and since I've gotten the Serta 2 this is the only pillow I have used. I'm normally not a big fan of the memory foam, but would strongly recommend this pillow to anyone. It's not too soft, but at the same time not too stiff proven to be just right. Give it a try and I'm sure you will be happy you did.

The product came out the box feeling somewhat hard and crisp. After a few washes (on cold and tumble dry low as instructed) the sheets loosened up and felt soft. However, I am about 5 months in and the fitted part has lost a lot of softness and has a rough feel when you rub your hand over it. The quality overall is cheaper than I expected and the sheets were also thinner and less substantial than expected. Also the duvet cover ripped in the first wash requiring a little sewing.

I washed it and dried it and it didn't shrink. It fit my queen pillow top bed fine. I dried it in the dryer and put it on once it stretched over the bed it looked fine. Feels good on, took some getting use to. Wasn't as soft as I would like but it was the first wash and I am sure it will get softer. I would definitely get another set. The material is thicker than most bed sheets these days. Very comfortable and breathable. Slightly wrinkled but once on the bed not noticeable. If you leave it in the drying without pulling it out and folding it, it will be a wrinkled mess.

Today is 9/6/12 and my sheets arrived quickly, as promised, on Amazon Prime. Today, I washed them as instructed, and dried on a low setting. They came out of the drier very wrinkled. You can almost describe it as shriveled. I'll be putting them to the test for several nights, and will get an update here. One minor thing to note: The product description states "The distressed stripe pattern on one side and solid color on the other complement each other". The stripe pattern is on both sides of this set, although a slightly different hue. I'm giving them 3 stars.

Update 9/7/12. Well, I slept on these sheets last night, and I have to say...that it was like sleeping on a bumpy, puckered mess. Imagine sleeping on a large orange peel with that kind of texture. So, I washed again on gentle, and even added a quality fabric softener. Once I pulled them the washer, I was excited. The sheets were flat and smooth. I dried them on my lowest setting, and even finished with an air fluff. ARRRGGG!! They came out all puckered again. I will try ironing them and will post again in a couple of days. I wish I could change my rating to 2 stars.

Last update 9/11/12. I'm done fighting with these sheets. I washed on a cold gentle cycle and dried on a very low heat setting two times and ironed the bottom sheet once, and they are still puckered. My husband & I decided on this bed after much research & deliberation. We moved 1600 miles, decided not to bring any furniture with us & we didn't have a large budget to work with. The mattress came within a couple days of placing our order in a box that was very easy to roll into the bedroom & open up. There is a lot of packaging, but once you get through all of it, the mattress pops open & quickly forms to its normal shape & size. It has a mild odor at first, but aired out within 12 hours or so. The mattress is the most comfortable one either of us has ever slept on & within the first week we were both better rested & my husbands chronic back pain is beginning to subside. No, I am sure that it is not the same as sleeping on a $1000+ mattress, however, for the price it is impossible to complain about the quality. Definitely would recommend if this is the budget range you are working with.

I ordered this mattress because of all the great reviews it had. It was meant to be used as a temporary bed while I wait for construction to end. Yes, it was pretty cool watching it go from a box to a full fledged mattress, but as excited as I was to get it, it was a huge disappointment. My initial instincts said that if they could fold this mattress into a box, its springs could not be very strong. I should have listened to my own instincts. The mattress is so soft, it's like sleeping on a bed of jello. There is no support what-so-ever. I tend to enjoy soft mattresses, but this one sinks as you sleep on it, so I wake up constantly throughout the night with back pains or with my head much lower than the rest of my body. It really is too bad, and once it's out of that box, there is no way to return it.

Had read a few reviews with the same complaint. Should have listened to them.

Last night was the first night I slept soundly, comfortably, in years.

I've had to sleep on a futon mattress on uncomfortable boxsprings for more years than I care to admit. Mattresses in my area are costly and the delivery charges outrageous. I had no idea Amazon had them until I did an oddball search. That's how I came across the Textrade Mattress in a Box.

If there had not been positive revues of this product, I never would have tried it. I mean, seriously, a mattress in a box? And one that was vacuum-sealed at that. Sure doesn't sound like it would work or be comfortable even if it did inflate properly.

But the price and reviews made it a tempting deal and I decided to try it. It was a plus that it was delivered to my door. (Unfortunately FedEx ripped the packaging. More on that later.) The mattress is literally in a box, rolled up. The box has wheels and a handle to make it easy to transport for anyone including those who live in older homes or apartments with narrow staircases. (The wheels are awesome and you could remove them from the box to reuse for another project, for you DIYers out there.)

It was actually fun to watch the whoosh of air fill the mattress and watch it grow. The instructions say to put it flat on the floor and leave for 4-6 hours so it fills to capacity. I wasn't able to do that (and after 3 hours I had to put a cover on because my dog decided she was tired of sleeping on the floor), and the mattress is flanked by two walls. One side is slightly sloped (not uncomfortable), but I know if I let more air in, it will be OK. Be sure to allow it to fill up properly and put it in a room with a door so no one (i.e. pets) can bother it.)

I purchased this with the Pragma Bed® Mattress Platform Queen. No Box Spring needed. Ideal for memory foam, latex, and air mattresses. and the Luna Premium Hypoallergenic Waterproof Mattress Protector Queen Size Made In The USA. After setting up the box springs which was incredibly easy I put the box on top of the springs for added support. (Also great for PPL who sleep on futons.) We unrolled the mattress on top and snipped away the plastic.

Shipping: This is a FedEx-delivered product. Typically, my purchases come via UPS. The driver complained that it was heavy and I actually thought I would have to get on the truck to take it out. She had me sign, but didn't tell me the packaging was ripped. I didn't discover how badly until she was already leaving. (I apparently wasn't quick enough on my feet that day.)

One of the great things about this is that the box has wheels and a handle to make it easy to move around. It would have been a cinch to get into the house if the entire lid had not been ripped off. It was hanging by a small piece of tape, which prompting broke off as I grabbed the handle. The driver made certain the lid looked like it was on as she pushed it out of the truck. I started really inspecting the packaging as the driver left and took photographs, which I sent to Amazon. I'm not sure how it is in your area, but I have had many items delivered broken or in bad packaging by FedEx. Never UPS.

So, the mattress rocks. The shipping did not. Fortunately, there was nothing wrong with the mattress when I inspected it. It is double-wrapped for added protection and the thick plastic covering it makes it pretty difficult to damage. However, without the lid where the handle is the box was difficult to manage.

PLEASE dont buy this mattress. This thing sags in the middle and doesnt support your body like some of the few reviewers have pointed out. I got carried away by the good reviews, and didnt give much importance to the bad reviews, and i am only posting this comment so that others wont repeat the same mistake. mattress is something you use for one third of your whole day. there is nothing else you would use as much. i actually even stay in my bed throughout the time i am at home!! so when it sags in the middle and makes me so uncomfortable in my back, its not worth at all. there is no way to return this product either. It has been such a bad proposition for me. I cant invest in another mattress after I already paid 300 bucks on this one without using it for a few yearsthat would really make me feel guilty. so now i am stuck with this stupid thing.

This product is horrible. We bought two, one for our king bed and one for our daughter's twin bed, and they both ripped when we tried placing them over the mattresses. We were extrememly careful putting the cover on our bed since the one on our daughter's bed ripped the first time. Moreover, when we were zipping it around our king mattress the zipper just broke. It came off the track without provocation and rendered the cover worthless. Both covers are now repaired with duct tape and I am disgusted with the quality (or lack there of) of these products. These covers were not cheap and we bought them for the health and safety of our daughter. This company should be ashamed to sell products of such shoddy quality that are supposedly created for the safety of individuals with allergies. I will never purchase from this company again.

I wanted to get a mattress cover for a brand new bed I just purchased. I tried this product and it ripped almost immediately while attempting to put it on. I figured I must have simply been unlucky and gotten a bad one, so I exchanged it for a new one and the same thing happened. Keep in mind I was being gentle with it, and not pulling and tugging on it. It is just a very flimsy cover.

J-Life Buckwheat Hull Pillow - Japanese Soba Gara Makura - Rectangular 13" x 18"

I love my new pillow and neck roll (I got one of each) -they're awesome! I'm getting used to their firmness and the hull sounds.

I previously used the Peace Pillow (not sold on Amazon, just at peacepillow), which has a built-in neck bolster but unfortunately doesn't come in a small size. I like having neck support, so now I'm using the J-Life buckwheat neck roll AND pillow together, which seems to work well. For me, the size and style of the items is absolutely perfect. Plus, they're organic and allergen free.

They're precisely as I expected, with one exception. I've noticed that many otherwise inferior competing products (like those from Bucky) have an inner zip lining to contain the hulls, which helps simplify cleaning the outer case/cover, protect the hulls, and buffer the noise they make when the sleeper shifts. I was surprised that J-Life products lack that convenient feature given their quality.

In any event, this is a minor thing, and I'm still thrilled with my purchase -and to support Japanese business in the wake of the triple tragedy.

The pillow was super stuffed; I doubt any more hulls could have been crammed into it. Perhaps this is to allow for eventual compression of the hulls. In any case, because I'm petite, I had to remove about 2/3 of the buckwheat hulls before it seemed right for me, and I think that even after the remaining ones compress and I add some back to readjust it, I'll have enough for two pillows, which would be useful. So, I asked J-Life if I can buy another case/cover only; I expect it would be around the same cost as another pillow, though.

This is a great pillow and the workmanship is good. The pillow cover is especially nice. It was full of buckwheat hulls and I emptied out about half to get the right feel. Overall, it's a bit expensive but I'm happy with the purchase.

I bought this mattress protector to cover a twin box spring so that it would look neater under the mattress.

PROS: -the box spring fit inside

-it's white and uniform in color

CONS: -it's big/loose around the box spring

-the zipper is weak, came out of the bag semi broken, but I was able to zip and upzip it to get it back on track again

-it's transparent and doesn't provide a nice uniform white color to the box spring

These sheets were amazing! They look wonderful, and they matched perfectly for what I needed. They are so soft and they definitely help keep us cool at night. Will so be buying another set here in the near future!

It came apart at the botton seam. My son was looking forward to it. We have used it gently. It has been a help since I got out of the hospital but the seames need to be stronger at the bottom.

I got this pillow for my husband to use while reading in bed. There is not a lot of support, compared to the old one I had. He likes it and does use it.
